Learning Lessons

4 June 2017

This past week has given us the opportunity to reflect on everything that has happened. We have just experienced a significant event in the development of Cocolis, and we wanted to share our thoughts with you.

Learning lessons from this incident…

Despite the 4 months spent developing the new features of our site and the hundreds of hours we dedicated to checking every element on every page; a bug slipped through.

Even though we know that all websites are likely to encounter this kind of incident, we feel responsible, as we thought our site was completely reliable. Clearly, that was not the case. Our technical knowledge allows us to do a lot, but it also often brings us back to reality.

For our part, we have decided to learn from this experience and take something positive from it.

“From every misfortune, one must learn a lesson and bounce back after a fall.”

… to come out stronger

From now on, we will be even more vigilant, as your trust is a priority for us. We are therefore putting in place an action plan to ensure maximum security on Cocolis.

This week, we spoke with several IT security experts who advised us on various methods to improve website security. We are implementing one of these methods as early as this Tuesday.

We will share the results with you as soon as they are available.

In the future, we plan to introduce a process to continuously detect and fix any potential bugs, in order to further secure our IT system.

We also invite anyone who notices an anomaly to let us know at the dedicated email address: securite@cocolis.fr.

Furthermore, we have conducted investigations to determine to what extent user data may have been accessed and used. Our investigation is ongoing and we will get back to you if we learn anything new.

We also draw strength from those who have supported us. We think of all those from the tech/startup ecosystem who, spontaneously and without expecting anything in return, shared their own experiences, accompanied us, or showed us their solidarity. But we also think of some of you, members of the Cocolis community, who have shown us your understanding and support, by phone or by email.

Thank you.
