Interview Bazar d'Alger: porcelain and cotransport
18 July 2023

For this third episode of “Scotché”, we met Arnold d’Alger, founder of Bazar d’Alger, for a fascinating interview. On this occasion, Arnold welcomed us into his workshop, worthy of a home decor magazine. And for good reason, it’s part of his brand’s DNA. In this interview, Arnold shares how he uses Cocolis and how it has become a strength to develop his business!
Bazar d’Alger in a few words
A graphic designer and illustrator by profession, Arnold d’Alger created his Bazar d’Alger workshop in 2019. Arnold has specialised in decorating vintage tableware, which he sources from individuals, LeBonCoin, or antique dealers. His mission is to give these items a second life by hand-painting and gilding them.
"I also offer custom decoration on tiles, which I do on request for my clients."

The Cocolis community at the heart of his business
With demand growing rapidly, Arnold often needs tableware, which he mainly sources online. And for a very simple reason:
"French tableware from our grandmothers can be found all over France."
Arnold d’Alger
However, sending tableware by traditional transport, especially when it comes to sets with many pieces, was not a viable option.
I was precisely looking for a transport solution that combines the care needed for tableware and a reasonable price.
Arnold d’Alger
It was while browsing the internet that Arnold found the ideal solution. For him, the friendliness of the community and the proximity between users make Cocolis a valuable resource for sourcing raw materials.
"You chat with people who are making trips, coming from certain regions, sharing their stories – it’s already a bit of an exchange system."
Arnold d’Alger
A real guarantee of safety and peace of mind when it comes to transporting fragile goods!
"With this kind of transporters, who are usually individuals, when you tell them it’s tableware, they pay extra attention, knowing it’s fragile."
Arnold d’Alger
A delivery solution for every challenge
Beyond being connected to a helpful and caring community, Arnold appreciates our price-setting system tailored to his needs.
"You set your own price. There’s an exchange, it’s a bit like haggling, it’s fun."
Arnold d’Alger
But above all, it’s the safety aspect of Cocolis that allows Arnold to have his tableware delivered without breakage!
"The individuals who handle the transport take much greater care of the items entrusted to them when told they’re fragile."
Arnold d’Alger
Another advantage he notices is the ability to collect items from very remote places. Cocolis allows him to quickly find a cotransporter, ready to make a small detour if needed, for a corresponding price adjustment.
"It really allows me to pick up grandma’s tableware from all over!"

Cocolis and Bazar d’Alger, a partnership with a future!
Arnold shares his future project to expand his workshop to Spain. He is considering using Cocolis again to ensure deliveries between France and Spain, to manage the creation of new pieces there and bring them back to Paris for sale.
Cocolis will be delighted to support him in this new adventure!
The best music for hitting the road?
More than a song, Arnold is attached to a particular atmosphere to escape during his journeys. But his favourite road trip music:
"It’s Sigur Rós. And the name is unpronounceable! It’s a bit like film music… on the road. But actually, you’re on the motorway and you’re going to your mum’s! (laughs)"
Arnold d’Alger
That’s how Cocolis became the ideal partner for transporting Arnold’s vintage and antique tableware. A beautiful story combining passion, creativity, and collaboration. We can’t wait to see Bazar d’Alger’s expansion in Spain and the wonderful creations that will come from it!
